We have been super busy lately. I apologize for not blogging sooner. Since the last post we finished the infamous 4th term...at SGU this is known as the worst term of medical school. This term included Pathology (which has a reputation of being the hardest class), Microbiology, and Introduction to Clinical Skills. We were very busy and studied all the time last term. However, we did find time for Graham to visit back in the fall (see below for pictures). After finishing the hectic 4th term we went home for a much needed break...enjoyed Christmas and New Years...then came back to Grenada for our final trip to the island. We have been trying to enjoy our last term here. I hope you enjoy this long, much overdue blog!
Graham's Visit
It was so nice to have Graham visit us in Grenada. I really enjoyed having him here and having the opportunity to show him our little island we have called home for the last few years. The week before Graham came to visit was Carnival. Carnival is a week long celebration. It is really a big deal to the locals, so much so that some Grenadians that live in other countries come back to Grenada every year for Carnival. Throughout the week they have costume/beauty contest, steel drum competitions, parades, and lost of parties. Derek and I went to a few of the Carnival events. Graham got lucky because the biggest and final parade of Carnival was delayed, because of a bad rain storm, until the weekend that Graham was here...so he got to be involved in some of the fun! Here are a few pictures from Carnival & Graham's visit!
Enjoying a pretty sunset from campus!
Dinner at True Blue, with our friend Andy
Graham really enjoyed sitting on our balcony in the hammock smoking Cuban cigars…
Lunch before the parade with our friends Derek & Doris
No surprise…Of course Graham & I can’t take a serious picture…
That’s much better…
Parade…lots of big colorful costumes!
Steel Drum contest…these bands had 50-80 people playing in each band!
Fish Friday
The weekend after our 1st set of exams in 4th term we took another trip up to Gouyave with Derek & Doris for Fish Friday! This was Derek & Doris’ 1st trip to Fish Friday…we all really enjoyed it! As you may know, Derek & Doris are from Florida and of course Gator fans…this just so happened to be the night before the TN vs. FL football game last fall.
The Dereks enjoying their fish tacos!
Doris & I enjoyed lobster for dinner!
Thanksgiving
Again for Thanksgiving, we had our own little dinner. This year we had a few friends over. We had a great time and lots of really good food. Of course I made my usual Pumpkin Cheesecake but I didn’t take a picture of it. Also, unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the people who ate with us.
IEA Banquet
Last term we had the opportunity to attend the Iota Epsilon Alpha banquet at the University Club. IEA is an honor society; Derek has above a 3.5 GPA so he was inducted into IEA last term. We had a great time & the food was amazing!
