Happy Memorial Day! We really wish we could be at home to help ring in the unofficial start to summer with everyone (with grills, hamburgers, strawberries, and all the other fun things associated with summer). Unfortunately, today was not a holiday at all for us...we had class as usual...all day long from 9 this morning to 8 tonight. Obviously, they don't celebrate Memorial Day here...we actually had one of our professors (obviously a local Grenadian) tell us to "suck it up" today because we had to go to class (and no one was even complaining), I thought that was quite disrespectful!!
The start to this semester has been a little rough. It has seemed like everyday since we have been back we have had to deal with some "typical Grenadian" crap...like trying to get paperwork done, or trying to get sugar at the grocery store (we have heard Grenada is having a sugar shortage because of the dry season), also not to mention our air conditioning in our room has not been working properly since we have been back. Our room on average has been 80 degrees and the weather outside is very hot and very dry, it looks like we are living in a desert everything is brown and dead. Also, Derek has been sick the past few days (he barely got out of bed all day Saturday). He went to the clinic today, he has tonsillitis. They gave him a prescription for some antibiotics. Here is a picture of what he was given at the pharmacy.
This is an interesting way to package the medicine but I guess it is a lot more efficient than those little plastic bottles we get at home. The seven day supply of antibiotics was EC$16.80 (about $6.72 US), pretty cheap!
